Excellent condition. Rare Collector's Item. The red colour is correct pics 1-6.
Beautiful Vintage Silk Twill scarf, "The Angler's Companion" by Macclesfield Silk, UK.
The scarf pictures a portrait of Izaak Walton 1683, surrounded with fishing vignettes, within a descriptive border. The design is taken from an engraving in his book "The Compleat Angler" which is still to be considered to be one of the most influential books on the environment. The book is the 3rd most popular book in the English language after the Bible and Shakespeare's works. A version of this design was most famously used by Hermes Paris in 1937 for their first ever scarf (the wording is slightly different) but has been reproduced several times since by both UK and Italian manufacturers. This version dates to the 1970s and is by Macclesfield Silk a famous silk mill in the UK dating back to the 1600s.
