**Brief Description**
The stamps are considered 'FINE' by my standards.
The margins are offset ever so slightly, but are still visible
There is an extended bow to the stamp as well, but not too, too bad.
There are 'NO' hinge marks present at this time.
The overall quality and design aesthetic is outstanding.
A rare find, indeed
This is also a block of 4 stamps with 'NO' numbers present.
The colors are bold, the picture is clear and the typography is excellent.
A must have for any collector.
**Historical Significance**
The stamps were used to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Sociologist Jose Pedro Varela.
He was not only a famous sociologist, but a politician, journalist and even an educator.
Thanks to his efforts, Uruguay adopted free, compulsory and secular education in 1876.
It was because of Varela, that Uruguay established the 1877 law of common education, which continues even until this day.
He died peacefully in October of 1879.
