    Description

35 early Issues of Tequesta, The Journal of the Historical Association of Southern Florida, 1941 (Number 1) through 1977, less 1959 and 1960.
Series began as a bulletin of the University of Miami. First issue features "Pre-Flagler Influences on the Lower Florida East Coast" by George Merrick, founder of Coral Gables, who died the following year. Another is entitled "Bradish W. Johnson, Master Wrecker 1846-1914" by Vince Gilpin,  co-author with Ralph Munroe of "The Commodore's Story." Another article features entries from Gilpin's mother's diary about arriving in Palm Beach by boat in 1890. The 1942 issue includes "Some Plant Reminiscences" by famed plant explorer David Fairchild, who is listed as an occasional contributor. The 1943 issue includes "Pioneer Women of South Florida" by Mary Barr Munroe. And so forth. Issues in recent decades are fairly common but not those at the beginning of the series. These issues typically have five or so feature articles and average 80-100 pgs. Conditions range from very good to fine. For the serious student of Florida history, this is an opportunity to complete a set.
