These adapters are for joining 2 PL-259 type UHF Connectors.
Construction consists of a
30-Micron Silver Plated, Beryllium Copper Center Conductor
for
low contact resistance, an
80-Micron, 16-cut, Nickel Plated, Machined Brass Barrel (not die-cast as with inferior components)
,
for durability, and DuPont Teflon
® Dielectric (
Insulator) known for its permittivity, strength, and higher withstanding voltages over a wide range of frequencies and temperatures.

This is a valid question and the answer is simply better materials & construction. The center conductor is made of silver plated, beryllium copper, not just copper.
Beryllium is a metal added to copper
for
ming an alloy which
makes the center conductor
stronger with spring tension. Without this spring tension,
the center conductor permanently expands
resulting in
a
weak captivation and
also contributed to the meltdown of the cheap adapter shown in our photo.
Tight solid connections are absolutely crucial

Why did it begin melting? Mainly because the center conductor is brass and not beryllium copper, and non silver plated both which caused poor contact,  causing heat. Heat generated from the poor contact caused the inferior plastic to melt. The coax cable was also heat damaged from using this poor quality PL-258.
