Amphenol invented the PL-259 Connector in the 1930's.  The Amphenol Brand PL-259 is arguably the best in the world.
Mechanical:
Construction consists of a Nickel Plated Brass Body for durability, a Silver Tip for low contact resistance & ease of soldering, and a Mica-filled Phenolic Dielectric known for its permittivity, strength and higher withstanding voltages over a wide range of frequencies and temperatures.
Electrical Rating
: 50-Ohm impedance, variable, DC to 300-Mhz plus, and commonly used up to 512-Mhz.
Voltage Rating of 500V Peak. Operating temperature range is from
-50C to 149C (-58F to 300F)

RoHS Compliant
per Directive 2002/95/EC.
Amphenol proudly publishes their specifications. Before buying someone else's PL 259, ask for the manufacturer's name and model number; ask to see the specifications, data sheets and certifications. More than likely all will be unknown and/or unavailable. Finally, give the other product this simple test. If there is no name, model number, or marking on the connector, then surely the manufacturer can't be very proud of it and likely the name was omitted for liability reasons.
